Stool Makeover

I bought these stools on Craigslist and pimped them up a bit :)

All you need is a couple cans of spray paint (primer and final color), upholstery foam and fabrics, a screwdriver, glue gun and a staple gun, a brush or a cloth for cleaning.

Step 1- stripping

Strip the seats off the chairs with a screwdriver. Sand the frames if necessary and clean the wooden frame thoroughly.

You can use a brush or a rug, or Goo Gone if necessary. Let the frames dry if you wiped them with a damp cloth.

Once the primer is dry you can spray your preferred color on. I had to apply 2 layers of color paint.

Make sure to flip the chairs (when the first layer is dry) and then paint from below.

Step 3 - coloring
Step 5 - upholstering

Then I placed an inch thick upholstery foam on top. I stapled 2 fabrics: first a regular white fabric that holds the foam in place and then the thicker upholstery fabric I got from IKEA. I used some of the white fabric on the bottom of the now upholstered seat to make it look neat...just in case someone ever looks at the bottom of the seat :)

Step 2 - priming

Prime the chairs first, and then wait until dry. Spray paint dries pretty fast! You can either use white or grey primer. The color of the primer will not e ffect the end result.

Spray primer from below as well.

Step 4 - padding

You can work on the seats while the frames are drying. First I glued paint stir sticks onto the back of the rush seat so that the staples can grab onto something.

I used fluff from an old pillow to turn the concave seats into convex; hollow into puffy and comfortable :)

Voilà !

Now all you have to do is enjoy your new re-vamped stools! :D
